NEW AEROPLANES

Additions to H.B. and E.C. Aero Club AMERICAN MODEL' Two American cabia aeroplanes, one of wbicb is to be purchased by tb© Hawke's Bay and .East Coast Aero Club, and ordered by tbe club captain Mr E. A. Barker, are expected to. ari rive in Now Zealand sbortly, tbe flrst about December S. Botb machines are to be assembled upon arrival in Hastings. The new monoplanes, Ponterfield de luxe cabin models, are fitted witb Warner Searab Junion 9o b.p. motors, and bave a cruising-speed of 112 miles an bour, making tbem tbe fastest macbmes in tbe club. Tbey seat two passengers tandem in th© upbolstered cabins, and may be piloted solo from eitber seat. An order to install self-starters was subsequently cancelled as tbe installation would bave meant a great increase in weight. In December, tbe free de Haviland Tiger Motk wbicb bas been allotted by tbe Government in connection witb tbe training of pupils for the civil reserve of pilots, is expected to arrive. Tbe new machine is driven by a Gipsy Major engine of 130 h.p., and will probably be fully "'equipped for blind flying instruction. Of metal construction il> is particularly strong and will present a contrast to the other planes in use by reason of tbe pronounced stagger of tbe main planes. Witb tbese three arrivals, in addition to tbe clubs planes and others operating from tbe field, a large although varied ffigbt of machines will be 'in use. An addition to the fleet -recently was a D.H. cabin Hornet Motk. Until its sale to New Plymouth yesterday the veteran machine ZB — AAB, familiar at least in tbe air, to all Hawke's Bay residents, reposed in damaged condition in the hangar. Tbe first motb to fly in New Zealand, the machine has little left of its origlnal self, having been rebuilt on several occasions after smashes. A Moth Major and a Hornet Moth ©omplete the equipmcnr of the clab, but Mr A. S. White's Gipsy n '■machine, in which he flew from England to Australia, is also at Hastings.
