NAPIER ROSE SHOW

£xcell%nt Entries and Keen Competition DETAILS OF AWARDS "Roses, roses everywhere" — and ex cellent roses at that, according to the judge, Mr. G. P. Wilson, of Hastings, were the chief feature of th© Napier Horticiiltural Society'a rose and sweet pea show jn the Foresters' Hall, Napier, yesterday. Close on 700 entries, & favourable comparason with. past years, made an impressive display inside the hall. The blooms, for the mosb part were of fairly even quality, so tiiat in a nuipber of the classes competition was keen. Mr. Wilson, the judge of the roses, commented that the standard was getting back to the old style for exhibition roses, the older varieties coming back, while, in the more recently introduced varieties, forxn had been sacrificed for colour. The champion rose, Henrich Wendland, entered by Mrs. Beatty, of Hedgely, Eskdale, was perfect in shape, being the best exhibition form one could get. The show was officially opened by the Rt. Rev. H. Williams, Bishop of Waiapu, who was introduced by the president, Mr. 0. 1). Wilson. Credit for the excellent arrangements and smooth conduct of the fixture goes to the secretary and ^assistant secretary, Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Wilson, and a band of splendidly organised stewards and oflicials. Awards were as follow: — ROSES (OPEN). (Judge, Mr G. D. Wilson, Hastings.) Kennedy Rose Bowl. — 12 roses, distinct, Mrs M.
