Items for Council Order Paper The Mayor, Mr G-. A. Maddison, presided over Crs. A. I. Rainbow, T. Palconer, T. Dobson, P. M. Cohr, P. Loacb, C. H. Slater and Si Ashcroft, at the monthly meeting of the Hastings Borough Council last evening. Leave of absence was granted Crs. G. W. McCorinick and S. J. McKee. » e « Last month there was 6238 attendances at the Hastings Women 's Rest, 5110 being patrons, 55 visitors and 1073 to the Plunket Rooms. Ca?2i receipts totalled £19 9/10 and parcels of niagazines were received from Mrs J. McCormick, Poukawa, and Miss K. Stubbs, Hastings. • • • Petitioners for the sealing of Parlc road north are to be advised that, as the council has already prepared its budget for the present year, it was impossible to find the £630 necessary to this work but the request would be considered with next year's estimates. # « $ A helinet of the topee type and a light lumber-jacket type of tunic, eoloured bluo to match the trousers, is the uniform suggested by the Borough Traffic Inspector; Mr D. Mann, for use in summer montshs. His representations came before the council last evening when it was referred to Cr. G. W. McCormick, chairman of the •* traffic coininittce, and the town clerk.

The consumption of water each month continues to increase in Hastings and last month 41,265,000 gallons of water were pumped by the borough works department as compared with 39,762,500 gallons in October of last year. The rainfall for tho periods was 2.09 inches and 1.12 inches respectively. « «• * There are now 3549 water connections linked* up to the borough supply. Except for nine dhains on the north side of the old bed of the Ngaruroro river, and another piece of 5| chains, the whole of pipe-laying for the sew'er outfall has been completed. The construction J the concrete culvert at the beach is now in hand. « * • Four thousand plants were bedded out in the town and park gardens in Hastings last month. * a • Though the motorists' camp did not open until October 22; receipts for last month totalled £8 7/6, there being 24 parties during the nine days the camp was open. • ' « & Thanks were expressed for a donation of 200 plants from Mrs J. Franklin, of "Beverley Hills", Havelock North, for planting in the borough reserves. «■ # « Last month the borough traffic department ipade 14 prosecutions and the fine totalled £15 5/-, with £6 2/- in costs. - * « # Three heavy vehicles weighed last month were found to be overloaded. * # ■ As tihe result of 176 inspections of residences during the : onth, 53 notiees regarding rubbirh on roadsides, overhanging trees, leaky taps and other forms of nuisances were issued. • «> « Three head of wandering stock and 10 stray dogs were impounded last month. # « Since the beginning of the present financial' year £ 1151 6/10 has been colleeted in outstanding rates, leaving a balance of £1349 9/5 to be collecteiL & * There are now 1450 adult and 542 children subscribers to the public library. Last month 367 new books were placed on the shelves. Revenue for the period came to £55 4/5. # « « Proposed additions to the Hastings Club buildings, by tho increasing of the bar and dining-room accommodation, in wood, were submitted and in view of the special circumstances it was decided to agree to this rourse, though the building w£s in. tho brick area.
