STATE HOUSE SEWERS

Borough Policy Upheld By Minister An assurance that tlie Government will hold itself responsible for the provision of sepaiate sewer connections to .. c,. . maividual premises in the State housing biocks in Hastings was given by the Minister of Finance, tho Hon. Walter Nash, in a letter received by the Hastings Borough Oouncil last evemng. It will be recalled that the council was concerned at the fact that tho Housing Department proposed to have cnly one sewer lead into two houses, and this was contrary to the practise adc.pted in respect of all other premises in the .borough. Bepresentations were made to. the department regarding this aspect, asking that a defmite assurance be given that in the event of any of the houses being sold then it would have a separate sewer connection, The Minister has written now giving the following undertaking — • ""Where a common drain has been iustalled by the Housing Department, the Government is prepared to make a separate connection from each house to tlie nearest six inch or larger sewer, at its expense, tor any house built by it which is sold." "Of course it is uot ihe intention of the Governuient that any of the houses should be sold," adds the Minfster 3n his letter.
