WELLINGTON, This Day. "Industrial labour is beginning to realis© that it must establish in Austrgha one industrial organisation to work in harmony with the Australian Labour Party jf anything of real advantage is to be accomplished," ? said Mr. L. Glover, a Wellington trades union official, who returned to the Dominion this week by the Awatea after a visit to Australia, where he made inquiries into industrial legislation in several States. Lack of unity, conteuded Mr. Glover, was the cause of Labour's failure to gain the Treasury benches at the recent Federal elections. He was surprised at the almost entire absence of mention of the progress of Labour legislation in New Zeamnd by the Labour candidates, though he could quite appreciate that the immensity of Australia and its concern with its own problems were suffieient to cause attention t0 be focused purely on home aifairs to the exclusion of anything else. Thus the defence issue because a smoke screen which ciouded over other more'*" vital issueS. In New South Wales, South Australia and Victoria, Mr. Glover said, he had been able to collect valuable industrial information which would be distributed among the unions concerned. He had had the oppoxtunity of viewing the operation of the chain system of slaughtqring in the freezing works. New Zeaiand had muck to learn from Australia regarding the conditions under which the system was operated.
