COMING-OF-AGE PARTY HELD IN HASTINGS
The Baptisf sehool-room presented a gay scene at the coming-of-age party of Miss Hazel Mardon, which was held laat week. The hall was gaily decorat' ed with rose-pink and white streanaers, stretching from the corners of the hall, and attached in the centre to a large tube of nmlti-coloured streamers, down which shone a large liglhfc. The stage was beautifully decorated with bowls qf snowballs and baskets of iseland poppies. Across the front was suspended coloured lights and Japanese - lanterns. High-up at each end of the hall were double blue lights, which were used effectively during the evening. This work was oarried out under the direction of Mr Les Spurdle, who also made a very eflicient M.C. The evening was spent iu games, and oompetitions interspersed with items given. by Mrs Lascelles and Miss Joan Lascelles (vocal duets), Miss Nellie Atkins (Mandolin solos) and Mr W. Bentley( vocal solos). Accompaniments for games and items were played by Miss B. McCutchon. About 70 guests were recevied by Miss Olive Nelson who acted as hostess. $he wore a gowi of daffodil panne velvet with a trained skirfc and corsage finished with a "divided Peter-Pan collar of silver lame and brilliant buttons. A belt of silver lame was finished with a large diamante clasp and she wore a small bolero jacket of brown yelvet. The guegt-of-honour wore a gown of ihell pink ring velvet with panelled skirt and the corsage finished with a roli collar of silver" lame and silver flqwers, had shorfc puff sleeves. A delicious supper was served, after which Miss Hazel Mardon cut the cake which was iced in pink and white, and decorated with &1 silvered wish-bones tied with miniature pink bows, and holding small pink candles. Miss Catherine Smith then presented her with a posy in pink phades composqd of rose buds, sweet peas, camations, stock and inaideuhair fern. Mr Lambert Smith presented her with a very handsome poker work key the gift ofa f reiud. i The guest of honour was then called upon to open her many parcelp, which disclosed some very beautiful gifts, and on her behalf Mr R. Baker thauked all who. helped to make the evening such a success. Miss Mardon also thanked the guegts. Musical honours were then accorded her and the guests were asked to siga a key made in book form, The very jolly evening was brought to a close with a streamer dance followed by the singing of "Auld Lang Syne."
