COSY THEATRE
"GKBAT GAMBINI" AND "POSLORN RIVEB." "The Great Gambini," and; "Forlorn River" screen finally to-night. Refreshingly different from the ordinapr run of motion pictures is the Warner Bros. mammoth iilm ' ' ' The Green Pastures,'-' screening to-morrow at the Cosy Theatre. As a stage play, . this . creation of Marc Gonnelly'g ran for more than hve years. It was presented in 203 cities and towns, and as 'a picture will probably reach more than one hundred times that many theatres. "The Greeh Pastures" ie a stirring picture '.based on Connelly's Pulitzer Prize play, which w.as saggested by Ro ark Bradford 's novel. Connelly also co-directed the picture with William Keighley and wrote the screen play in collaboration with Sheridan Gibney, Spirituals are sung by the Hall Johnson choir. There are hundreds in the cast, including Rex lngram ard Oscar Polk. No expense was spared— no detaiJ too minute — no project. too large, too ex* pensive or too daring. The result is a motion picture that is expected to' do far more than break box office records — -it will, those who have seen it aver, set a new mark of excellenco. Here is screen artistry in its finest sense — a picture play based on a great book, .made even greater by the sym, pathy and understanding, the inborn reverence and the artistry of the dramatist who had fvund in his youth something of the tempo and the spirit. r that gave to him- the ability to interpret and to express the feeling that is labour and the paih thati s humility.
