WAIPUKHRAU, Last Night. At thij' monthly meeting of the Waipukurau County Council on Saturday, the ehairman,' Mr A. C. Russell, mentioned that he had private information that the PaTliamentary Cqmmission dealing with lccal body" amalgamation would meet .on November' 18. ' : He could tot say what procedure the coui-.cil hui to tC^low until a circnlar was received, but he believed that a conimission would visit - the districta coxicerned. He supposed the commission, of which a judge would be ehairman, would sit in Waxpukurau and hear evidence, though he did not know what Ihe coixxmission would work on. The Patangata County Council did not want amalgamation, nor did the Waipawa and Waipukurau County eils.Mr J. A. Swinburn: Are you sure that Patangata does not want amalgamation? Councillors replied that the council had eaid so. The" ehairman: They say.a council should not be bigger than an engineer can handle; that is ldgxcal- enough. I don't think the three counties want amalgamation. Mr Swinburn asked why amalgamation was wanted if it could be proved that the work could not be done any eheaper than at present. The chairmaiC replied that ono ground for amalgamation was economy iii the use of plant. The clerk meutioned that there were 12 county councils in New Zealand sjnaller than the Waipukurau County Cbuheil. No action was taken,
