Effect of Diesel Engines
IBv Air Mail—
LONDON, Oct. 13. The coming oi Diesel engines burning oil may. help to put an end to seagickness. That is the daim of a Brooklyn, inventor, Edward Carroll, who has just taken out a patent for using the •tqres on board a ship to counteract the rolling of the vessel in rough .weather. The oil is to he stored in a series of pells, each connected. with the liext by valve's. '"When the ship tips over "these valves open in such a way that the oil fails in the direction against that in which the ship's motion is taktmg place. Thus the wright of tlie oil steadies the ship. . This invention has obvious advantages over the gyroscopic machinery "used in some liners to counteract motion, because it does not require any new machinery. It achieves tho same xesuit with. the oi! already needed for propelling the ship.
