(Received 5, 8.45 a.m.) NEW YORK, Nov. 4. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor may cancel their visit because they ar® displeased with the American reaction, especially with their description as a sluminng party. Mr C." Bedaux, from Washingtoft, s said, "The odds are nine to one against the trip." An announcemeht from White Hoijse says that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor will be thp guests of President Roosevelt at tea on November 12. Mrs Koosevelt will be absent on a lectujre lour, which, it is emphasised, has no significance. However, it is learned that the State DepaTtment will not accord royal status to the Duchess. The denunciation from Baltimore liaft released a good deal of criticism whick previously had been held back. The New York Post has a front-pago eight-column streamer: "Pro-Nazis Guide Duke's Tour," and reprints a two-column 'article from the Lbndon periodical The Week, alleging that tho Duke of Windsor is under tne iuliuenoo of a Fascist group. The Post also prints a five-line edi- i torial stating; "The Duke of Windso*

reiterates his desire to live a nsefal life. He is leading that kind of life. He has been very useful to Herr Hitler in the past three weeks." The World Telegram, in a leader, presses the fear that the Duke and Duchess of Windsor 's American experi* ence will be unhappy. "The fact is," it says, "there is noi a satisfying job at which an unemplojN ed king can work without the suspicioa of ulterior motives. The Newr York Daily News say«j[ "The British Government is exposmg the Duke of Windsor to ridicuie by fiet-ping him from the Empire. It would avoid considerable embarrassment if it Uld him and 'the duchess to live ia Liigiand and keep quiet."
