SCHOOL CLUBS
Interesting Innovation at Mahora ENCOURAGING HOBBIES An interesting innovation introduced at the Mahora School is the system of school clubs. These are formed with the express purpose of encouraging and interesting the pupils in some particular hobby or subject not include'd m the ordinary school work. The pupils are encouraged to spend their leisure hours furthering the objectives of the particular club, or clubs to which they belong and the children have shown considerable enthusiasm. To date there are 14 different clubs, eacb under the direction of a member of the teaching staff. Every Friday afternoon from 2 to 3 p.m. members from Standard 1 to Standard 6 go tt> their club-rooms and commence their own woj/k that has been mapped out and p'.anned by tbem during tbe week. Leaders of the clubs have been appointed, and there are helpful to the work of each individual within the club in arousing activity that would not come in the course of ordinary work. When this system was introduced a wide choice was olfered, with the result that at present the work of the clubs is of a highly satisfactory nature. The school is fortunate in that it 1 has on its staff teachers with a diversity of interests and who are speciallsts in certain subjects.
