TAUPO FISHING

Our Own CorreBpondent.)

Wittd Confines Angling To Western Bays GOOD SPORT ENJOYED

(From

TAUPO, This Day. Owing to the strong south-wmsteriy wind which has been blowing since Tuesday last, the fishing on the lake

has been connned to the bays on the western side, between Rangitira Point and the wharf. It ia unfortunate that there is not a good motor road to this area in which there are some wonderful fly-fi'shing spots. At the present time traffic is not allowed over Booth's farmt as a notice has been erected to that effect. This means that the only way to approach this area is by launch. * The fisuing in the Waikato River is generally good% particularly at the Huka Lodge, jtist above the Huka Falls. Mr Horlick and party, fishing from a launch, in two ' hours secured six falr flsh, the best of which was Sjltos*, all being caught between The Point and the wharf, They report th&t the sport was good. Maxten Bros., of Tauranga, in an Outboard motor, secured six fish in the same locality, Mr p. Sweetapple and Mr T. Higgins,of Napier, also secured six fish witli the fly from a dinghy at the ripple near the wharf in two hours. Mr F. Carr and Mr S. Boyton, of Wellington, on the Spa reach on the Waikato River, fishing with a wet fly, secured 15 good fish on Wednesday and 11 more yesterday. The best was 6}lbs., with an average of 3ilbs. They enjoyed good sport. Mr and Mrs T. Richarde, of Wellington, fly-fishing at the Eour-Mile Bay, secured. 21 good fighting fish in four days, and then, fishing on the Spa reach4 secured eight fish, the beat being 6£lbs.* and an average of 3$lbs Mr Fulljames, fishing on the lower Waikato, landed an 81b. and two sixpounders, all in good fighting condition. The present indications are that the south-westerly wind is dropping and that conditions on the lake will toiprove.
