PRAM-CRADLES USED FOR MOTOR JOURNEYS

The new type of perambulator-cradle invented for .the benefit of Princess Alexandra, the Duchess of Kent's daughter, is being widely adopted. It solves all the difficulties of taking babies on motor journeys, says a London correspondent. . The cradle. is ratlher like an oblong box made of pastel-tinted leather with stiffened sides. A mattress to match lies along the bottom of the "box" and two stout handles enable the baby and its cradle to be carried like a shopping basket. When in the car, the cradle can lie on the floor or on the baek seat. The baby is completely protected froin draughts, ahd is immune from all shakings caused by bumps in the road. When at the sdaside, the cradle can be carried down on the beach, with great ease, and will perform the duties of a perambulator there for the baby's sleep. Some mothers are even having these cradles in preference to ordinary cots for nursery use. The two big dark blue perambulators the Duchess of Kent uses for her two children, Prince Edward and Princess Alexandra, when in London, are being thoroughly overhauled while the children are staying at Sandwich, for a seaside holiday. A folding perambula-' tor, in which both children can ride at once, has been sent down there with the nurses. Like the big prams; the folding perambulator bears.no coronet on the side. The Duchess of Kent had the coronets removed from jher first perambulator some months ago so that the nurses would not be bothered with curious onlookers when wheeling their cliarges in the parks.
