NAPIER TOWNSWOMEN'S GUILD MEETS

St. John's Hall, Napier, was the scene of a very pleasant gathering yesterday afternoon, vhen members of the Napier Townswomen's Guild hel'd their last monthly meeting of the year. Tall green vases of guelder roses decorated the stage, and a brass bowl of lovely tawny antirrhinhms was placed on the president's table which was covered with the guild cloth. The chairman, Mrs Bruce Barnett, . read the report of the first council" meeting of the New Zealand Union of Townswomen's Guilds which took place recently in Wellington, and paid tribute to Miss Spencer, the founcleir of the guilds, for her endless tact and wonderful control, also lor the great assistance she had given at the council meeting. The Puketitiri Women's Institute is holding a flower show at an early date, and Miss Spencer extended a hearty invitation to guild members to form a picnic party and spend a pleasant day in the country, whare they would be warmly welcomed. Each member brought a pound parcel, and these are to be sent to St. Mary's Home for Christmas cheer. A clever and artistic posy bowl demon'stration was given by Mrs A. B. Hurst, the finished artiele being passed . TOiind for inspection. Mr's Barnett thanked the demonstrator who was accorded much applause. The propramme for the afternoon. was given by.' members of the music circle 'and was as follows: — A. medley of Nursery Rhymes by tlie Choir,. who also rendered "Hey for the Road," adapted from Schubert's' March Militaire. Mrs Oarroll then entertained with two vocal solos, "My Task," and "When You Conie Home," these being followed with a solo by Mrs Nixon entitled "Hallelujah." Mrs H; Dowling delighted her listeners with two violin solos,. "Cavatina," and "Ave Maria, " and Mesdames Sorrell and Pilcher rendered two vocal duets "When Song is Sweet" and "Because of You.'J Mrs Dagg then sang "There is a Land-' ar.d the following sextette, Mesdames Carroll, Sorrell, Brodie, Arthur, Smifih and Rawlin$onj , sang ' 'Ye Banks and Braes,",the soloist bein|j Mrs'Rawlinson. A pianoforte duet was then given by Mrs Wood and Miss Wood, and the Blue Danube Waltz by the choir concluded a most enjoyable prograrnme. The chairman tnanked Mrs Rosewarne, the leader of the music circle, and the artists who had contributed to the enjoyment of the afternoon.
