POLICE APPOINTMENT
Inspector D. Cameron Coming to Napier To fill the vacancy occasioned by the retirement of Inspector J, Fitzpatrick, Inspector Donald Cameron, 0f Dunedin, has been appointed as offieer in charge of tlie Napier police district. Inspector Fitzpatrick retires at the end of this month, and it is anticipated that liis'successorAviji take up his new duties then. Inspector Cameron joined the Poiico I'Orce in 190-i, and wns soon transferred to the detective branch. doing duty in the ■Wellington and Dunedin detective offices. In 1919 he was appointed de-tective-sergeant at Wanganui, where he remained until 1923, when he was appointed senior detective at Wellington, In 1926 he beeaine chief detective at Dunedin, and oceupied this position until 1931, when he was appointed to the rank of sub-inspector. In 1934 furfeher promotion saw him appointed inspector in charge of the est Coast district, with headcuarters at Greymouth, and in 1936 he was transferred back to Dunedin. During his eareer he lias been connected with many ndtable crimes, including_ several murder cases, and hada prominent part in the investigatipns into the sensational poisoned ckocolate case at Blackball, on the West Coast, sorne 21 years ago. Inspr1 c,or Cameron has a repntation of being a most capable and eflipient offieer, and in all his years of service he has been most popular both With the publie and the" men of his .depaTtments
