Training For Saturday

OHKISTCHURCH. This Day. Training work at Riccarton this moruing did not provide much exci,tement. Plenty of hurses were out, but useful pacing was the general order, in preparatlon for the iinai fast.gallops ip-morrow. The weather was warm and most . tralnere would welcome a downpour or rain, as the gi'ound .is very hard. Paper Slipper, after being let off with liglit- work yesterday, dashed over six furlongs on the plough, going very freely to register 1.14 4-5, the last three being done in 37 l-5$ecs. Emissary sprinted half a. mile up the back, outside of the course proper, in 51 3-5secs. Black Thread accompanied the two-year-old Rakahanga on a run down the straight from the five-furlong barrier with not much between them/ but was not ridden out. Merry Mareh and Haerepo were sent together for a sprint down the straight ou the course proper where the North Island two-year-olds Gay Son and Peerless did simlar work separately. A large niimbor of horses which came from tho north yesterday were given useful tasks. Fiord went ' well in a sehool over two brusk hurdles. Superex was sent out for a run over the brusk hurdles bufc gave only a moderate showlng. Royal Grafton jumped attraetively twlce over two brush obstacles which Redolent jumped once in proficient style. The bayrier at the five-furlong post was at the disposal of trainers, a number of young horses being given some education. Trebleack and Milford arrived from the south last night and look in good order.
