Cabinet Meets Footwear Trade Representatives

WEUUliNtxTUiN, TlliS JJay. A small but important beginning had been made to safeguard the Dominions' secondary industries, the Pfime Minister, the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, stated to-day. Representatives of the footwear 'industry had oiet a special subcommittee of Cabinet which had the task of surveying national resources and industrial prospects. The meeting was fof the purpose of preparing a scheme of action for safeguarding the Dominion footwear industry. That was only one phase, added Mr Savage, for the Cabinet had the interests of the whole of New Zealand 's spcondary industries at lieart. "Our overseas trade relations are necessarily involved, and this is one of the aspects which takes most timo to reach a satisfactory understanding. We have already communieated with the United Kingdom Government and, nnw that the Australian elections are ofer, we are contaeting the Australian Government concerning trade relations as they affoct our socondary. induB^rie^,,
