MISSIONARY WORK

Napier Branch of C.M.S. Holds Convention The Napier committee of the New Zealand Church Missionary Society held' a missionary convention recently in the All Saints' Church hall, Taradale. The morning session was taken by Canon W. G. Williams, when a special service was held of missionary hymns, prayers and lessons. In the afternoon Canon Hodge opened with a missionary litany, then several girls from4. the Hukarere School sang unaccompanied Maori hymns. The Rev. Nigel Williams, lately from Singapore, gave an address on the work there of the Anglican Church, and stressed the need for more workers. He spoke of the great work being done by the Church of England Zenana Mission School in Singapore. Miss Dinneen, "Wellington, who was in Ohina from 1907 to 1931, gave a talk on the changes in China in regard to mission work, and the altered political outlook, and made an eloquenf ap*peal for the Red Cross. Miss Florence Smith, for, over 30 years in South India working nnder the Bishop of Dornakal, spoke of the improvement in the lot of the outcast people in that country, largely. the result of Christianity and stressed the need for more workers in the mission field.
