Althaugh 8§VC?al fairly gogd hig8 WC?e taken. during the day conditions for tho ppening of 'the trout fishing spa#on in the Rotorua district this morning werq rather a diiappqintment nfte? the encouraging prospect# held out at the week-end. There wa# an unusually large influs of anglers and with an overeast sky and fairly high westerly wind conditions in the xnpre exposed places vfero difficult. Lake Rotorua received the full force of the wind* Shortly befora daybreak it increased tp sueh an extent that after a time the lake was praetlcally -unfishable. Trolling parties pecured some good eatches but fly fishermcn generally had a lean time. Only two limit bags wero , reported for the day. One was taken at Okataina averaging seven pounda and the other was in thee Ngongotaha Stream. Al though bags were not as plentiful as might have been hoped for, the feature of the opening day was that ail the bigger fisli taken were in excellent condition.
