^Eeceived 2, 8.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Nov. 1. Wheatgrowers and graziers in this State are facing serious losses owing to a plague of grasshoppers, which have become a crawling mass on a huge front and are devastating the northwest of New South Wales. Extensive tracts of grazing land have b«en eaten out in a few weeks, days or hours, according to the density of the swarms. Stock inspectors describe it as tbe worst plague for 35 years. Nothing but an act of God is capable of checking the pest. j Tons of poisoned bran and flamethrowers are being used to eradicate the grasshoppers, but with little success. Eeports from southern New South Wales indicate that a Bimilar state of rfiffairs has arisen there, causirg the utmost cpnceiu to the small farmers as well as to Governmeht officers, who are co-operating in efforts to find an etffective way of dealing with the pest.
