Necessities of Life in Gerinany SCARCITY OF FOODSTUFFS (Beceived 2, 10.5 a.m.) LONDON, Nov. 1. The Berlin correspondent of the Fin•acifci News says that a national campaign has been inatfgurated to reduce the price level of necessities of life. It has heen partly inspired by anxiety that the Tesignation of Dr. Schachfc as the Minister of National Economy may shake public confidence in the safety of their savings' from devaluation. The first step will he a voluntary re* Jdnctxon on November 15 in the prices of medicines, cosmetics, Tadios and office requisites of from 5 to 10 per eenf. Foodstuffs, rubber goods and textiles are becoming scarcer every week. Gredit expansion and Germany Ts ienonnous paper currency are' a constant menace, and price rises are there* fore inevitable. The ' authorities say that the causes aTe beyond their eon- , trol and that the 25 per cent advance in the prices of raw materials is irremediable because Germany has been deprived of her colonies.
