SUBSIDY ON WORKS
Labour Department Refuses 100 f er Cent. . RIVERS BOARD REQUEST A tequest for 100 per cent. subsidy to complete the pilot channel in the Tutaekuri 1 river below the Redclifc bVidge has not been acceded to by the Department of Labour.- To-day the Hawke^s Bay Rivers Board was advised by the 'department that it was preparod to approve of the cpntinuanco of the 75 per cent. subsidy in Tespect to the employment of 20 men, and had increased the commitment.by £450. The engineer., Mr Gr Rochfort, informed members J;hat with & 75 per cent. subsidy tEe board would be involved in a further expenditure of £250 to ^£300 to complete the work which tould be done as cheaply by 'machinery. After a short discussion the question was xefened to the chairman, Mr ~t5. Lttseen, rae~engineer and.the clerk with power to apt.
