Pukahu Meeting At the monthly meeting of the1 Pukahu Women's l'nstitute Mrs L. W. Goldlinch presided over a large attendance of members and opened the meeting with the institute song followed by , the aspirations. Members were asked to stand iii si'lence for a moment to express their sympathy with the relati'ves of jMi's Stewart, a much-valued niomber • of the institute who wouid be s'adly missed. Mrs H. Evans, .the treasurer,, who had recently lost her husband under tragic circumstances, was aiso ' remembered, the president saying that, all hearts wquld go out to her in her decp trouble. Sympathy was also extended to Mrs Manning, who had recently lost a relative. A hearty welcome was extendcd to Mrs G. * Giark, of Hastings, and Mesdames Dyer, W. A. Bryant and Taylor.

The flower show in November was' discussed and it was deeided to leave ihe show open to any exkibitor, a special invitatiou being extended to Havelock North members to exhi-bit. It was deeided to open the show in the evening and that 6d bo eharged for admission. The stewards wero elected for the cooking, needievvork and flowers, also to superintend the supiier arrano-e-nients. ° The "Golden Thread'' talk was continued by Mrs Willcs who chose ,-Slieila MeDonald as a famous New Zealand woman and gave a most interesting aecount of her life. Mrs Lang then gave a very full and comprehensive account of the federation meeting at Greenmeadows, which she' attended as delegate and was accorded. a' very hearty vote of thanks for her excellent report. dames Cummins, Manning and.Brooks, Mrs C. Clark. who .is always a most "welcome visitor to' Pukahu, gave a very flne d.emonstration on the making of a gentleman's , buttonhole, a, lady's shoulder spray , and a bridal sheaf . During the process of making the sheaf, Mrs Olark gave most useful hints on how to lceep different flowers fresh, how t'o arrange a vase or bowl of flowers and also how to mako a ball of flowers for exhibition purposes and other item-5 of considerable interesfc to members in view of the flowers show to be held next month. The sheaf was rnado of singTe' and double stock in shades of deep •pink, * anemones and tulips with gprays ■ of • asparagu'3 fern and - with a dainty bow of ribbon. to tone looked a most beautiful piece of work and reflected great credit on the artistic ability of the demonstrator^ Mirs Livingstone proposed a very hearty! vote of thanks to Mrs Clark for her interesting lessons on floral work and this was carried with acclamation. Mrs Clark was the recipient of a dainty; coat spray of -white asters mada from wood fibre and in returning thanks said how pleased she' was to visit Pukahu again as she always enjoyed her visits ' to the institute., She presented ihe finish'ed sheaf to the president and a shoulder spray to Mrs C. Lean. The* competitions, judged by Mrs C. Clark and Mrs- Dyer, Tesulted as follows: Best flowers in the garden, Mrs Crawford 1, Mrs Lean 2. Miss Orchard 3; .niit.and raisin loaf, Mrs Wakefield 1, Mrs Little 2, Mrs Lean 3 (Mrs Lean'a trophy) Mrs » Clark awarded Mrs Crawford and Mrs Goldfinch equal first in the bouquet competition, Miss Clara Lang 3, and Mrs Lang v.h.e., and eomplimented the exliibitors upon the bo!:quets; saying she Eoped each one would enter an exhibit in the flowers flow in Noveiiiber. The prize-winnere thanked Mrs Clark for tho lovely prizes she presented, which were very much appreciated. The National Anthem concluded a most interesting meeting.
