The lioyai Society of New Zealand expresses its profound regret at the unexpected death of its most distinguished Fellow, Ernest, Baron Rutherford, O.M., M.A., D.Sc., Ph.D., LL.D., F.R.S., F.R.S.N.Z. The society feels that by his deaih the world ,of science lias lost its most brilliant experimenter, one whose name will be inscribed on the short roll of those who, from tinie to time, in the history of human cndeavour, have been permitted to enter the moro secret chambers df Nature »nd pass on ihe knowledge there gained to their less gil'ted fellows, The society, with whioli Baron Rutherford was So loug and so closely oonntvted, recognises also that ib has lost an hcnoured friend, and its mem.'crs desife to assure his widow, Lady Ruthcrt'ord, oi' their sincere syxnpathy.
