GIRL GUIDES' GIFT
Message of Loyalty THEIR MAJESTIES' THANKS The thanks of their Majesties the King and Queen, for the loyal Coronation message sent from New Zealand on behalf of the Girl Guides of the Dominion last May, has been received by the Girl Guides' Association. Tliis acknowledgment was contained in a letter from Sir Alexander Hardinge, privute secretary to the King, to the Chief Guide Commissioner in Ncw Zealand, Miss R. Herrick, of Napier. The message took the form of an illuminated address, written on vellum in both English and Maori, and was ou fine lambskin showing the route accompanied by a coloured map printed over which the msesage was taken throughout the Dominion before despatck to England. Contained in a inetal cylinder, the message was taken by relays of Girl Guides over an extensive route through both the North and South Islands, receiying the im. print of the seals of many of the cities and boroughs of the Dominion. For seyen weeks it was ftarfied over the hihs and through the vialloys, on foot, on bicycle, on horseback, by train, by motor ear, aeroplanq and Maori canoe. The intentioii was that as many girls as possibla should handle the message and thus have a personal ipterest in the expression of loyalty from Ncw Zealand Girl Guides, Finally it reached Wellington by aiT frqm Nelson and was- handod to the GovernorGeneralj. Viscount Galway, who forwarded it to their Majestiqs. "The King and Queen have received with much pleasure' the address which the Girl Guides of New Zealand have sent to their Majesties ou the occasion of their Corouation,' ' stated Sir Alexander Hardinge in his ietter. "Their. Majesties greatly admired the decoration of this iliteresting address and sincerely thank all the guides for their loyal message and good wishes, which tbey much appreciate. 1 am also to request. you to convey to those guides who carried the address round the Dominion their Majesties' heal'ty conthey porformed their task and on their gratulations on tlie manner iu whicH sueeess in overcoming tlie ditficuities ' ittending it." *
