Discussing the various points in his amendment, Mr Hamilton said thero was no doubt that tke Government was encTOacking on- the fields wkick legitimately belonged to private enterprise. "In the case. of tke Itailways Department, expenditure is" well ahead of revenue and this is a case of tke Government expanding its aetivities at the expense of- the taxpayer. Then there is the problem of the rising cost of living. The discussion which we have had to-day on the ' wheat industry shows how the taxpayer is finding the mqney to finance the Government 's endeavours to keep down tke cost of living.*
