Tke Punjab has made great strides iu the development o'f hydro-electric power, and the North-West India Erontier Province is determincd not to lag bchind it. Tke Malakand sckeme, dependent on the Swat River, is nearly completed, and will in its first stage be iu operation by the end of this year. Tke largest project of its kind in tho province^ it will give tke Peshawar Valley a cheap electric supply tkat may bo extended into the Hazara and Kokat districts. Tke benefits both to tho ordinary consumer and to industrial es tablishments skould be great, for in these tkr'ee districts muck of tke province 's trade and industry are eoneentrated. „ Prontierfemen believe tkat these are capable of muck expansion, given adequate power as is proposed; the Ministry in particular will welcome uiore ckeap electricity which will enable it to go ahead with a number of sehcmes to raise. the people 's productivity. A more prosperous Nortk-West Frontier Province will mean a greator demand for tke tribesmeu's produets, and so will kelp tkera to remove tke economic causqs of periodic frontier umeot. ^ J
