SOCIAL CREDJT SUCCESS?

(By Telsgraph-

(Eeceived 29, 8.45 a.m.) SYDNEY, Oct. 28. It is expected that the position in regard to the closely-contested geats, 6xcept Gwydir, in the House of Eepresentatives Will be cleared up next week, leaving the Lyons Governmexit with a majority of at least 16, oompared with 18 in the last Parliament. There is a distinct prospect the Government losing the Wide Bay seat in Queensland, formcrly held by Mr. Corser, to thc Social Credit npminee, Mr. G. Nichols, which would cause great surprise in politics^ circles, as the Social Credit eandidates contested only a few constituencies anywh'ere and with the exception of Wide Bay polled in. significantly. The fate of the assistant-Minister Mr. Hunter at Maranoa is still undetermined, but the indications are that he will triumph. Whether Sir Arehdale Parkhill, Minister of Defence, will snatch a lastminute victory in Warringiah will not be known until the middle of next week. There is an unexpected development in the Gwydir electorafe, where the Country rarty candidate, Mr. E. Bachelor, is now loading the retiring Labour candidate, Mr. W. .Scully, and looks like winning. The distribution of preferenqes in the Senjate voting is unlikotly to begiii until Monday week.
