The Burina Ministry is taking up the subject of opium smuggling into this country. By sea and land it is expensive, and seizures by the authorlties are numerous. The Ministry is considering means of preventing smuggling from the Wa States and Yunnan, and of stamping out the opium habif by gradilel_ stages. Much of this smuggled opium, it is alleged, has come from China through the till receutly unadministered Wa States. The work of administering these States has now begun.
