Amalgamation -with Ongaonga Not Acceptable

(From

MAKARETU, Last night. A special general meeting of the Makaretu Sports Club was held recently to consider tho question of amalgamation with the Ongaonga club, or the holding of a combined sports meeting. Mr O. Thomson presided over an excellent attendance. A deputation was received from th* Ongaonga club, Mr D. Holden being the speaker. He thanked th© members of the Makaretu Club for giving them an opportunity of bringing the proposal before their club, and apologised oi» behalf of his club for the unsatisfactory ending of the previous agreement between the two clubs in 1932, and assured members that if an agreement was again made between the two bodies the terms would be strictly adhered to. Mr Holden expressed the opinion that as the two meetings were within a fortnight of each other it would be to the mutual advantage to hold a combined gathering. He then submitted the following pointa to the meeting: That sports he held on January 1; that an agreemehi be drawn up for four years with alter-' nate meeting at Sherwood and Onga-. onga; that the 'first meeting be held at Sherwood; that the profits or losse« be shared on a 50/50 basis. Mr. Thomsen expressed the opinion that owing to counter-attractions on January 1, January 15 would be a more suitable day. Mr Holden said. they would be quite willing to hold sports on whatever day would be ihost suitable. Mr Holden advised members that there was a loss shown last year hy his club owing .to various xeasons, and stated that the assets of the club were as follows: Cash, £50 "10/6; cups, £24 15/-; dancing board, £7 7/-; hurdles, £4 10/-; vavrious £4 5/-; making a total of £92 1/6. The deputation then retired. During a subsequent discussion three alternative propositions were considered, but were not acceptable to the majority of membefs, therefore the proposal could? not be entertained, and the secretary was instructed to advise the Ongaonga club accordingly. Dr. Baymond was appointed as hon, surgeon, and Mr Goodger is to. be invited to act as announcer.
