WELLINGTON^ Last Night, j An urgent question was asked the Minister of Industries and Commerce, Hon, D. G. Sullivan, in the Hopse of RepresentativeS this afternoon, by MrS, G. Smith (Opposition— New Plymouth), who drew the Minister 'a attention to the fact that an aiteratioa to the scale of charges of the carriage of bensine, etc., by the railways had . increascd the cost of petrol to users; of that coramodity in Taranaki by- ft! sum of up to £60,000. He asked if the Minister would take , the necesssary steps to Temove the embargo placed by the railways on petrol companies, which pjevented the establishment of any further petrol stOrage tanks and depots at New Plymouth or other ports. Mr. Sullivan, in reply, said the carriage of petrol was governed by a contract entered into by the Railway Department and the petrol companies over a year ago. The contract still had a year to run. The Government had not fixed the retail price of petrol in Taranaki. It had merely fixed the margia to resellera and the maximum price to wholesaters, who could sell at priees equal to or less than the priees fixed if they chose to do so. .... • -* . - t \ ■■ ■ . i ii i.
