WOMEN'S INSTITUTE

The October meeting of the Puketitiri Women 's Institute was held xecently in the Hall, Mrs Nicholls presiding over a fair attendauce of members. Mrs Skinner was appointed secretary in place of Miss Nelson, who recently resigned. After correspondence and other business matters had been deal with, the competitions for the month were judged. Results were as follow: Best article from used string, Mrs Jensen and Mrs Holt equal 1; potato scones, Mrs Wright 1, Mrs Carswell 2, Mrs Jensen 3. This closed the" scone competition for the six months, Mrs Carswell being the wmner on points. She received a special trophy presented by Mrs Turner. Afternoon tea was then dispensed by the hostesses and during this interval it was announced that Puketitiri Women 's Institute had tied for third place in the infant layette knitting competition held recently. Seed potatoes were given out to members who wished to enter the potato growing competition. Mrs Bolt demonstrated hay hox cookery, which was most interesting 'and for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks.
