The deatli has occurred at the Wairoa Hospital of 31iss Joan Winter, younger daughter of 31r and Mrs E. Winter} Haig street, Wairoa. Aliss VVinter was a pupil at tho Wairoa High Sohool, where she was a popular pupil.

A Cricket Defeat. '

Playing at Havelock Nortli on Satr urday the Otane team was defeated by the Havelock team by an innings and 84 runs. Batting first Otane made 30 (Curly 14); J. Davis took seven wickets for eiglit runs. Havelock made 173 — W. Whitehead 102, Pankhurst 21. In their second inmngs Otane scored 69 — Drinkrow 21, Pearce 11 and Page 11.

Standard Hurdles for Sports.

The fuggestion that the Wallingford, Porangahau and 3Iakaretu spprts clubs combine with the Waipukura A, and P. Association to obtain a standard set of hurdles was made at a meeting of the Grounds Committee of the association by Mr A, W. Parsons, who olfered to store the hurdles when they were uot in use, The secretary, Mr G. Reg. Cook, said that a sub-conimittee had alre'ady been elected to deal with the matter aud that the cQUseut of the 31akaretii Sports Club had. been secured. lt was agreed that Mr Parsons and the secretary should prepare a plan of the hurdles, obtain au estimatQ of tho cost and call a meeting oi; the bodies concerned.

Show Axemen's Ring.

At a meeting of the grounds committee of the Waipukurau A, and P, Association it waa decided to alter the position of the axemen's ring so that it will be able to be viewed from tlie grandstand. Tho committee decicjed to erect permanent posts, subject to ihe approval of the Waipukurau Jockoy Club, and the secretary is to coufer with the manqger of the Central Hawke's Bay Concrcte Works on th« proposal. *
