Dowling, a labourer, aged 40, pleaded guilty to a- charge of stealing £5 10/belonging to Edward Ernest Fairburn, a single man, aged 78, wko lived alone. The police said' that Fairburn wus connectod with the Ohristian Spiritualists Ohurch. Dowling called at his home, saying he had been isent by the presidont and vice-president of the chureh tq borrow £1 to pay his faro to a job in tke counlry, Fairburn gave kim £1 from kis wallet.
