Happy Evening at ' Ongaonga

ONGAONGA, Last Night. Balloons suspendod from the lights floated above a* ballroom full of dancers in the Ongaonga hall when the Ongaonga Golf Club held a successfui ball to mark the close of the season. About 200 dancers were present from Hastings, Waipukurau^ Wellington, Patangata, and Takapau. The organisation was in the hands of the club members, Messrs It. F. Whitworth and J. McLeay having charge of the floor. Bupper was provided by a ladies' committee. Mr W. Te Tau's orchestra rendered modern melodi§s in popular style and extras were played by Messrs A. Willmott, of Hinerua (violin), A. Rasmussen (mouth-organ and megaphone), J. Crump (guitar) and Ted MeissneJ (sound eli'ects). Miss Joan Harker, of Waipukurau, and Mr Robert Bradley, of Wellington, gave exhxbitions of the quickstep and the modern waltz. The encore was just as popular and the conple again entertained later in the evening. Miss Harker wore a model frock of silvei threaded pink satin, ornamented with a spray of pink and red flowers. A competition in aid of the club's fund was completed during the evening. The lirst prize, a dozen golf balls, went to Miss Peggy Simpson, the second prize to Mr V. Nottage, Waipukurau, and the third prize was won by Mrs W. Turtle. Credit for a well OTganised and splendidly controlled function is due fo the following comraittee: — ^Messrs B. F Whitworth, J. McLeay, K. Dailey, W Yardley, E. Bradley, W. Pettit and L W. Simpson. %
