Youth Wins North Island Title

PALMERSTON N., Last Night. The amateur cycling race from Palmerston North to Wellington on Saturday for the North Island championship was won by a 17-year-old youth, M. Graham, of Nelson, riding from the 32 minute mark. The handicaps and actual times for the first three riders was as follows: — M. Graham (Nelson), 32min, 5hr 1 min 30 1-5 see 1 J. Burn (Nelson), 22min, 4hr 51min 47sec 2 H. F. Hawke (Auckland), 22inin, 4br Slmin 4Ssec 3 W„ Youu'g (Napier), on 24 minutes, came ninth, The winner, who is new to big competition entirely, was first to tho top of Paekakariki hill and from tlus point cleared out. Anotlier young rider, J. Burns", also of Nelson, was second. He filled this plaee in last year's race, but I from a longer mark. | The race carried with it the North Island road championship, and this was won by J. Brown (Auckland) one of the scratch men, who made the fastest time, 4hr 38min 17 2-5sec, which is only 77sec outside the record time by an amateur in this race, the record being held by F. J. Grose (Canterbury), who was a non-startey to-day. Second fastest time went to R. DuttOn, of Wellington, whose time was Shr 41min 16sec
