HERETAUNGA BOWLING AND CROQUET CLUB OPENS NEW SEASON
The ideal weather on Saturday afternoon for the opening of the new season of the Heretaunga Bowling and Croquet Club added considerably to the pleasure • enjoyed by about 130 members' and ' visitors who were present. The, visitors included bowling club representatives and croquet players from many clubs ra all parts of the district. Mr L. J. Harvey, the bowling club president, opened the greens and wished all players a successful season, and Mrs' Lowe, the croquet club president, also made a cheery little speech. Mrs A. Dunn, the captain of the croquet club, &nd the two secretaries, Mr -A. Dunn and Mrs Lee, were also present. Competi.tions were enjoyed during the afternoon, the croquet winners beipg as follow: — Trajl, Mrs A. Ward (Heretaunga); angles, Mrs Grindley (United) ; golf croquet, Mrs . Corner (United); two-ball break, Mrs F. B. Moore (Heretaunga) ; skittles, Mrs A. Dunn (Heretaunga). A very delicious afternoon tea, Mr and Mrs L. J. Harvey being host and hostess, was enjoyed during the afternoon. Mrs Harvey was assisted by Mrs Lowe and Mrs Maher. The afternoon tea tables in the pavilion were most beautifully 'decorated with flowers in the club colours, brown and gold, artistically arranged in primrose shaded bowls and vases. In tho centre of the table stood the birthday cake, presented by Mrs Lowe, who blew out the four candles and the cake was then cut by Mrs L. J. Harvey. The whole afternoon was very jolly and was a most successful opening for the new season. ,
