The House would agree that the iminediate primary duty of the Britiflli Government and the Palestine Admini*tration was to take vigorous measures to combat terroriBm, to protecfc the live* of its officers and to restore effectiv* authority for the British Administratioa in Palestine. Sir Charle3 Tegart 'a record in Bengal, where he had dealt with conditions of acute difficulty, including terroxist activities, would be of immense value to the Palestine Administration. While diselaiming any approval of reprisals on innoeent persons, th* Colonial Secretary declared that th* military authorities and police in Palestine would have the British Gov--ernment's full support in dealing with the campaign of murder and outrage. The Colonial Secretary told the Etouse of Commons that he was entirely satisfled with the mauner in which the actiug-Higli Commissioner was using his powers under the Palestine defence Order-iu-Council. He did not consider that the time had yet corae for him to delegate his powers to the General Officer Commanding.
