INVERCARGILL, Last Night. ; The hearing of evidence at the; Marine -inquiry into the sinking of the; trawler Black Cat in. collision ' withj another trawlef Rita in Foveaux Strait: on AngtiSt 11, was cOnclUded to-day and. the Court .adjoumed to enablo counsel to prepare written- legal argument. The collision occurred on the oyster grounds off Ruapuke Island. The Rita struck the Black' Cat amidships andv caused her to founder imrnediat'ely. Before the collisidn the Rita was unde? way-at full steam. The evidence aa t& whether the Black Oat was under way ■ — that was to say, moving — was contradietory. The master and crew of ths Black Cat said she was -it under way., and the master and crew of the othar vessel said^sh© -was, Th& Black Cat, according to the master of the Rita, was steaming in a soutk-easterly direction, with the Rita on her starboard. The Black Cat, thorefore, under the rules, was tha vessel to give way. Another questioa was whether the vesseb were equipped with life-saving applianees under the life saving rules.
