Wife Horrified When Rifle Went Off

ASHBURTON, Last Night. ' A sequel to tlie incidcnt on Soptember 13 when Albert William Murdoch was wonnded in the nock by a rifle bullet, was heard in the Magistrate's Court when his wife, Ellen Anne Murdoch, was cbarged, firstly with committing assault with intend to do grievous bodily harm, and secondlj^, with presenting a firearm without sufficient lawful purpose. Accused pleaded guilty to the second charge, the police withdrawing the first. The police said that, following a quarrel, accused seized a rifle which had been left loaded. Counsel said Mrs. Murdoch was highly-strung and seized the rifle hardly knowing what she was doing. She had uo intent to injure her husband and was horrifled when tho riflo exploded.
