MR. ROBERT E. HORNBLOW
Mr. Robert E. Hornblow, whose death was reported yesterday, was 76 years of age. He was the eldest son of Mr. O. W. Hornblow, J.P., a pioneer settler of the Wairarapa, and served his apprenticeship to the printing trade on the staff of the Wairarapa Standard. He served for a period on the eommercial staff of the now defunct New Zealand Times, and .was later on. tho staff of the Wairarapa Star in Masterton. In the Idtter town he established a job printing business, an d also set kimself up as an auctioneer. He served on various local bodies, including the Masterton Borough Council, and was for many years a Justiee of the Peace. After leaving Masterton he acquired a newspaper at Hunterville, and later purchased the Dargaville News. He was for several years Mayor of Dargaville. He was a staunch Liberal in politics, and on six different occasions made unsuccessful attempts to enter Parliament. One of his brothers was Mr, J. K. Hornblow, proprietor of the Manawatu Herald, and a leading publio man in the Manawatu district, whoso death was recently reported. Mrs. F; T. Re.dman, formerly of Napier, and mother of Mrs. Frank Hodge, recently of Hastings, * was his sister.
