"I Heard No Criticism," Says Major Weir C0NT1NGENT D1D WELL
(Bt Telearaph-
AUCKLAND, Last Night. "I heard no criticism in England of the uniforms of the New Zealand men, but I can underetand criticism being made," said Major Weir, leader of tlia New Zealand contingent to the Coronation, oa his return by the Rangitiki. Major Weir eXplaiUCd that the New Zealand uniform was essentially a service dress. "The reason for the criticism," he said, "is probably the fact that our men were plqced in the procession just behind the South Africaus, who were in khaki cotton drill. which looks extraordinarily smart, and just • ahead of the Australiane, whose emu plumes caught the publie eye." Major Weir added that the beanng of the New Zealanders on parade, their aTms drill and their marching were the subject of more than favourable comment from people well qualified to judge. ' ' Our men put up a very good show indeed. I was more tfcan satisfled with them. ' ' Major Weir remained in England to take a course at the senior officers' sckool at Sheerness, Kent. He said the horse was being replaced by mechanised transport. Tanks could scuttle aeross the country at 30 miles an hour, all of which called for a higher degree 'of training than in the past.
