300,000 CHINESE TROOPS THROWN INTO BIG ATTACK ON THE DAZANG SECTOR
(Received 22, 2.30 p.m.) SHANGHAI, Oct. 21. About 300,000 troops are engaged iu a Chinese counter-offensive near Dazang. Big guns aud ceaseless columns of Chinese roiuforcements are passiug to the battle area. The dead aud wouuded are left ou the roadside. Coolies are carryiug steel plates for machine-guu positions. Eugineers are building pillboxes under fire in obedience to the order to defend Dazang at all costs. But Dazang is only ? name, Dazang having been demolished by artillery and aircraft. The Japanese tried out nine of the latest type of huge naval bomber in a raid on Nanking. Forty bombs were dropped on the military aerodrome from an altitude of 15,00 feet.
