After being depleted recently by the loss of a hippopotainus, giant tortoise and emum the Auckland Zoo's varied family has again been increased by the birlh of two healthy lion cubs. Eor the time being tiro new arrivals are being kept in an cnclosed chamber with their mother, but they will be placed on vlew writhin a fortniglit. On July 31 last year, the cubs' parents, Trixy and Vietor, created some(hing oJf a record by becoming the proud possessors of a litter of fonr. an exceptionally large litter for lions. They are both ahout 17 years old and have been at Ihe Auckland Zoo most of their Uve3.
