'REMEDY' KILLS PATIENTS

Tragic Experience in U.S. ' (Received 21, S.45 a.m.) CHICAGO, Oct. 19. The American Medical Association disclosed that nine out of ten persons at Tulsa, Oklahoma, to whom was administered what was claimed to he an extremely effective remedy had died. The preparation which was used at Tulsa and which is called "elixir^sulfanilamide," is used principally for blood infections. There wero also four other deaths elsevvhere, • and '375 shipments of . tho preparation which had been sent to other parts of the country are being recalled. Th eassociation, with out condemning sulfanilamide, which has been hailed by the medical world, says: "The tragic -experience should be a final warning to physicians regarding the prescribing and administering of semisecret, unstandardised preparations." The Federal Government has ordered the seizure of all sulfanilamide throughout the country and advised the Canadian authorities to act similarly. The deaths haVe reached 14.
