CAMP PERMITS
Scouts in the Napier area will see "Deerfoot" abopt tkeir camps; those in the Hastings area will have to go and see "Big Smoke." We have a simple form that has to be filled in before you can go. This may sound like a lot of 'red tape" to some, but it has become necessary now that so many Scoyts go camping * each year. The Scout troop should never, if it can possibly belp it, miss its yearly camp, since thi$ is the best training that wo can give a boy. A weelc or fortnight in camp can do far more good than weeks of work in the Scout hall, and, because of this, we want to niake sure that things will be run on the very best standard that is possible. Also, since the District Commissioner is responsible for tho Scouting in his district, he will naturally want to see each troop camp. Sometimes it has happened that a troop has been to camp and returned again before he even knew that a camp was to be held. This is not fair to him, and so all these reasons we are going to keep to the above rules. The camp permission forms will state where the troop is going to camp, the dates of the camp, the name of the Scouter in charge, the number of Scouts going, and the number and size of the tents. There is nothing unnecessary in any of these details, as you will all agree. When a patrol leader has the Camper's Badge he may take his own patrol out, and •will have to give these details himself.
