NO HELP FOR BRITAIN
South African Attitude in Event of War MINISTER'S DECLARATION (Eeceived 20, 8.45 a.m.) EXERKSDORP, Oct. 19. The Hon. O. Eirow, K.C., South African Minister of Defence, delivered a ppeech here to-day. Mr Pirow denied that the Uuion Government had agreed to assist Britain in the event of war or defend British colonies, and added; "If ever you are called on to take up a rifle because we have a contract with Britain to go to war, I tell you now, as Minister of Defence, that I give you permission to rebel and refuse to go to war. I phall be the first to rebel in such circumstanCes. "
