Honour for Canon Fancourt

AUCKLAND, Last Nigkt. By a resolution of tke Anglican Synod at Auckland yesterday Canon W. Fancourt, vicar of the Cathedra! Cku^ch and parisk of St. Mary's, and for some yoars in charge of All Saints ' parisk, Palmerston North, was appointed the first Dean of Auckland. The resolution was moved by Mr. C. J. Tunks Who siid it was simply proposed to increase the dignity of tke vickr of tke Catkedral Cburck and parisk. A tegacy had been given to the diocese for a catkedral and the steps to be taken in regard to that matter nlade it approprjate tkat tke chapter skouli be completed by the appointment of its kead wkick was a dean. It was also apprOpriate that the Catkedral Church vicar should be appointed to the office. Mr. Tunks added that Canon Fancourt had practically carried put tke duties of tke dean in the past and ke would wortkily fulfi! tke new pojsition. The motion was carried with aeclamation. In expressing thanks Canon Fancourt expressed gratitnde at the consideration ke kad received from Archbiskop Averill during kis eigkt years as vicar of St. Mary's.
