Progress of J. E. Peach & Co., Limited EXHIBIT AT THE SHOW lf asked to name what branch of industry is most notable for its rapid development and thorough-going efiieioncy, most people would immediately oay, "the motor industry." Keeping right abreast of the phenomenal progress made by this industry. particularly since the return of prosperity, is the well-known firm of J. E. Peach and Co., Ltd., authorised dealers in Napier, Hastings and Wairoa, for Ford cars traclcs and pommercial vehicles, Lincoln-Zephyr cars and Fordson tractors. fcimce the establishment of this firm over "20 years ago, the most progressive methods have been adopted, and almost every year has seen considerable expansion of the business. This expansion has been the uevitable result of sound trading methods, plus the conscientious endeavours of a higk-ly-skilled and hard-working staff. Within the last month a magnificent new garage, in the most modern architectural style. has been opened at Wairoa. These new Wairoa pi-emises, just as J. E. PeaCh and Oo's .Napier and Hastings garages, are equipped with the most up-to-date plant for servicing all makes of motor vehicles as well as the Ford. J. E. Peach and Co's exhibit at the Hawke's Bay A. and P. Show will comprise a "iost oomprehensive range of new model motor vehicles from the magnificent Ford V8 qnd Lincolu-Zt phyr to ne dependable English Ford passenger cars. Ford trucks and commecoial vehicles, as well as Foclson tractors, are also being displayed. A Mechanicai Marvei. One of the most inieiesting and instrucvive lcu'tres of J. E. Peach and Co's exhibit, indeed oi the whole show is tiie cut-v.way ehassis of a '937 inodcl Ford V8 car. This cut-away chassis is an actuai standard Ford V8 chassis oi the latest model withi sgctions cut away to expose to view every working part of the car's mechanism. In the engine can be seen the valyes, pistons, petrol pump, crankshaft, camehaft and so on in actuai operation. One can also see the inner workings of the gear-box and the differential. 'ihe mechanism oi the steering box, the hydraulio shock absorberg. 'the self-energising brakes • all; these can be viewed carrying out tlieir various functions. The complebo Vehicles thelnselves, covering an exceptionally wide range, are all of the greatest interest, repreaeuting as they do the culminating achievements of one of tlie great iudustrial geniuses of all tfme. All the vehicles on this stand are the direct outcome of Mr Heury Ford'a vast experience of building over . twenty-sis million motor vehicles. An examination of the present range, as compared with the earlier Ford models, shows the truly tniraculous development m the lifetime of one of the industry' s pioneers. Of interest to the greatest number ot people will be the Ford V8 cars New comfort and silence have been shown on J. E. Peach and Go's stand All of the three most popular models aro shown: the sleek, dashing coupe, Ihe rooray standard fordor and the lavishly equipped de luxe touring for. dor. Here are just a few of.the featurea that have made the 1937 Ford V8 so enormously popular. First} the styling of the Ford V8 makes it one of the most distinctive. cars on the road today. Its modern streamlining is a per-fectiy-balanced comblnation of beauty and utility. From a mechanicai poino nf view many important improvements liave been added to the exclusive Ford V8 features that experience has prov. od to be basicaUy eound. The new single-piece steel roof is stampSd out of one sheet of fine steel in a eingle operation ; and every otHer part of thp Ford V8 body, front, back, sides. floor, is steel-welded to the steel ribs and channels of Ford all-steei structure Headlights are recessed •into .the front fendert; the new hood lifts from the front and is locked by the radiator ornament; the gracefully sloping rearend conceals a new capacious outside luggage compartment, opening from the bottom. Brakes are another feature entirely new in design. Teclmically known as "cable aiid conduit" control brakes, they are operated by steel cables in placc of the usual mechanicai rods. These brakes aro self-energising, which means that the momentum of the car is used to help you apply the brakes. New comfort and silence have been achieved in this Ford V8. Rubber mountings for cngino und body at 32 points have almost completeJy eliminated vibratlou. Bpriugs are^perfectiy silent in operation— no . lrritating squeaks— as a resuit of au iligenious method of spring lubrication. "An aristocrat of the motor world" is an apt descyiption of the beautiful Lincoln-Zephyr V-12 featured by J. E. Peach and Co. To visit the show and not see this superlative example of automobile craftsmanship would be a great mistake. It reveals the most advaneed styling yet seen in New Zealand and it can well be imagined that five or ten years hence most cars will have the lines of the 1937 LincolnZephyr. Not only is the Lincoln-Zephyr entirely new in appearance ; it is also far in advance in construction. The engine of this magnificent car has 12 cylinders and is of the V-type, just as in the Ford V8. The V-type engine has won more outstanding world's records timi) nny other — on land, on the water and in the air. Pord factory, have achieved a well-jus-tified reputation for performance. economy and value. A very recent arrival, the new Ford "ten" is now arousing the greatest admiration throughout New Zealand. Displayed on J. E. Pehcli and Co's stand at the show are both the two-door and four-door models. Striking alike xn design and performance, this new Ford is a distinct advance on the earlier model, which had become oue of the most popular of all English light oara, One noticeable development is the increased roominess. While the manoeuvrability of a 94-inch wheelbase is employed, the springbase of riding base is 103-inches, giving smooth easy riding over rough road surfaces and perinitting ample leg room for four really tall people. The luggage compartment opeus from outside and a separate locker is provided for the spare wheel. Braking is powerful and efficient, being of tho Girling type, with full compensatiou between all wheels. A pistol-grip pull-out handbrake control is fitted under the instrument panel. The Ford Ten's smaller sister, the English 8-liorse power English Ford is also on display. CommeVcial Field. Just as in the cax field, so has Ford been a pioneer in the sphere of conlmercial transportation. Since 1917 Ford has been building trucks and comme cial vehicles. In the past 20 years more Ford trucks have been built and sold than any other make. It is as a resuit of this vast truck-building experience that the name Ford in trucks to-day stands for low price, low operating cost, long life and reliabiiity. On J. E. Peach and Co's etand at the show is displayed a representative range of Ford trucks and commercial units. which no user of motor transportation should fail to inspect. Ford to-day offers the operator of motorised transportation an extremoly comprehensive range of units, comprising various wheelbases, with a choice oi gearaxle ratios, and wide variety of body and tyre equipment. In the Ford V8 truck and commercial units and the Ford ten light delivery there is a type to ineefc the individual load and road requirements of every operator. Of special interest is the special bus chassis; which J. E. Peach and Co. are tehibitmg. This chassis has been marketed especially and exclusively for bus use, after years of intensive research and testing Power Farming Pays. Up-to-date farmers, not only in New Zealand but throughout the world have long since demonstrated the value of the motor tractor for all classes of farm work. The exhibit of English Fordson tractors on J. E. Peach and Co's stand will accordingly be of considerable interest to the progressive farmers who visit the show. Tho Fordson tractor is made at the famous English Ford works at Dagenham on the River Thames, The only powerful low-priced tractor of entirely English tnanufacture, the Fordson is an outstanding uuit, designed to supply depepdable low-cost power for agrichltural and general farming needs. Supplied vrith rear wheels fitted with spade lugs, ! cleats or giant low-pressure pneumatic tyres. the Fordson tractor offers a type to suit all requirements* Built throughout at the New Zealand factory the full range of Ford products exliibited by J. E. Peach and Co., Ltd., is a wonderful tributo to New Zealand workmen, over six hundred of whom are employed at the huge Ford factory at Lower Hutt, Wellington. It is the policy of the Ford Motor Company of Now Zealand Limited to utilise New Zealand materials wherever possible, Already the company has spent in the region of half a million pounds in establishing the Ford industry in New eZaland. It will be gathered from the foregoing that on J. E. Peach and Co's stand, exhibiting the full range of Ford products, there is something of real interest to everybody. Naturally, the only way in which to test any motor vehicle is to drjve it under conditions and over tcrritory with which you are familiar.
