Work to be Resumed

WELLINGTON Last -Night. The letting of a contract by th« Government for the labour for driving the bottom heading tunnel through, the Homer Saddle as a preliminajy to the major undertaking was announced by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon, E. Semple, to-day. The work was ceased temporarily following fatal avalanches a few months ago, but will probably commence next month. Further precautions are to be takou to protect tho workmen from the danger of avalanches by extending the concrete lining of the tunnel some distance beyond the eastern portal. The length of the tunnel when completed will be 4000 feet, the greater part of which will 1>» solid rock.
